In a recent podcast interview with Duncan Garner, musician and community advocate, Aly Cook says she has uncovered cabinet minutes that prove Chris Hipkins knew about the risks of the Covid-19 vaccine to 12–15-year-olds, despite earlier denials.

COVID INQUIRY RAISES QUESTIONS

The second report into New Zealand’s COVID-19 management, released on 10 March, has reignited debate over a controversial decision by Dr Ashley Bloomfield and former Ministers regarding advice from the Ministry of Health’s own advisory group

The guidance came in a memo from the COVID-19 Vaccine Technical Advisory Group (CVTAG) to Dr Bloomfield dated 9 December 2021. It strongly recommended against vaccinating those under 18 with two doses, noting that a single dose provides effective protection. The advisory group flagged the potential myocarditis risk associated with a second dose, referencing earlier guidance that stated “Younger age groups are more at risk than older age groups of myocarditis after the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine…”

COVID INQUIRY

 

The coalition government has confirmed the current Royal Commission of Inquiry will run its course. In effect, it will fizzle out and be replaced with a new panel and broader terms of reference which will include:

·         The use of vaccines during the pandemic including the mandates, vaccine safety and approval and the monitoring of adverse reactions.

·         The social and economic impacts of the lockdowns, and

·         The government’s decision-making and management of the pandemic.

Further details about phase 2 are expected next month.  The announcement has been welcomed by various groups advocating for a comprehensive and independent review.

Investigating Covid - Have your say

 

New Zealand’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic is being reviewed, presumably so lessons can be learned to better prepare for the next pandemic.

The review was initiated by the Labour government but has been criticised for being too narrowly focused. The coalition agreement between National and NZ First addressed that concern by expanding the terms of the inquiry.  The public is now being asked to have a say on what the terms of reference should be.

An issue hardly talked about in the mainstream media is the research by Dr John Gibson from Waikato University which concludes “excess” deaths post-Covid are about four percent higher than expected. He says accurate health and economic data are needed to evaluate policy responses to the pandemic. Surely, having a foundation of reliable data is fundamental to an inquiry if it is to produce worthwhile recommendations. If there are excess deaths, then the inquiry has some questions to answer.

NZ First has delivered on the promises it made to anti-mandate protesters and others. Their coalition agreement with National states it will: 

• End all Covid-19 vaccine mandates still in operation.
