Phil Halse is retiring after 33 years on the Whangarei District Council (WDC). LETTERBOX has obtained a copy of a tell-all interview he had with Concerned Ratepayers of Whangarei (CROW). Here are extracts.
When asked, who is driving the woke agenda within the council, he replied, “A group of seven who are working together: Deb Harding, Scott McKenzie, Nicholas Connop, Patrick Holmes, Phoenix Ruka, Carol Peters, and Ken Couper…Because we have that woke block at the top, every time it gets hard, they take the soft option.”
About Ken Couper, he said, “he was supposed
to be a Nat’ rather than a Greenie/Woke, so he was not doing what he was voted
in to do”.
On Cr Connop, he said, “He should stand for
the NRC. All the things he wants are the function of the Regional Council. At
every council meeting we’ve had, he talks about the rubbish we are creating and
we should be looking after the environment… He’s done nothing about recycling…
and yet he talks about it all the time… Don’t vote for this councillor [just]
because he picks up the rubbish once a month.”
About Local Government NZ (LGNZ), he said, “LGNZ
is totally left-wing. We have a right-wing government promoting new ideas and
we have the handbrake on it with local government.”
We thank Cr Halse for his many years of service
and wish him well in retirement.
